Adelaide Hall

Adelaide Hall (1901–1993) was an American jazz singer, dancer, and entertainer who rose to prominence during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she developed her talents as both a dancer and vocalist, ultimately becoming known for her innovative vocal techniques and energetic stage presence. Her breakthrough came with her appearance in the 1928 Broadway musical 'Blackbirds,' where she performed the jazz standard 'I Can't Give You Anything but Love' and became famous for her scat singing and signature 'wa-da-da' vocalizations that influenced generations of jazz singers. Hall's career spanned continents; she performed extensively in Europe, particularly in Paris and London, where she became a beloved entertainer of international acclaim. She recorded prolifically throughout her career, leaving behind a rich catalog of jazz standards and original compositions.
